Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a shared X746de justify keeping a second cartridge on the shelf?

Because when an MFP stops, it does not just stop printing — copying and faxing stop with it, and usually at the worst moment. A sealed spare on the shelf turns a two-day toner emergency into a two-minute swap. For a machine a whole workgroup depends on, that insurance is the real product in this box.

What do we actually save with the two-pack?

Two singles bought separately would cost $192.78; the two-pack is $174.29, so you save $18.49 and bring the per-cartridge price down to $87.15. Across the pair's 24,000 rated pages that works out to roughly 0.73 cents per page. It is a modest saving per box, but it repeats every cycle for as long as the X746de stays in service.

Can the two cartridges be split between two different printers?

Yes. Although this listing names the X746de, the C746H2KG is common to the whole platform — C746DN, C746DTN, C746N, C748DE, C748DTE, C748E, X746DE, X748DE and X748DTE — so one cartridge can go into the X746de and the other into a different listed model. There is no pairing or registration between the two cartridges in the pack.

How long can the spare sit in its box before being installed?

A long time, if it is stored sensibly: sealed in its packaging, lying flat, in a dry room-temperature space away from direct sunlight and heat vents. Toner powder does not dry out the way liquid ink does, so a spare bought today performs the same when it is installed months later. Dating the box when it arrives makes rotation effortless.

Our copies are mostly dense forms. Will we really see 24,000 pages from the pair?

Probably not all 24,000 — that rating assumes roughly 5% coverage, and dense forms, logos, and shaded tables push coverage higher. Treat the rating as the comparison standard between cartridges rather than a guaranteed count. Even so, the pair's per-page cost stays proportionally lower than singles at whatever yield your workload delivers.

If one cartridge from the pack turns out to be faulty, are we stuck with it?

No. Each cartridge is covered on its own by a one-year warranty, and either one can be returned free of charge within the first year — see our shipping and returns page for the steps. The good cartridge stays in your machine; only the problem one comes back to us.
