Frequently Asked Questions

With the extra tray loaded, which runs out first — paper or toner?

Paper, many times over. The C748dte's added tray is about keeping long jobs fed, but even a fully loaded machine holds only a few thousand sheets, while this cartridge is rated at 12,000 pages. Expect to refill trays again and again between cartridge changes.

We print mostly onto pre-printed forms and letterhead — does that change black toner use?

It can work in your favor. When the color and layout are already on the sheet, the black cartridge only prints the variable text and data, so coverage per page is low and the cartridge often runs past its 12,000-page rating. Full-page black documents pull in the opposite direction.

Is this the same cartridge the other C748 models take?

Yes — the tray configuration changes the paper path, not the toner. This listing names the C748dte, but the cartridge fits the full platform: C746DN, C746DTN, C746N, C748DE, C748DTE, C748E, X746DE, X748DE and X748DTE. A spare bought for the dte also fits the plainer models in the office.

How do I tell an empty cartridge from a paper or tray error?

The printer tells you plainly: low or empty toner is reported as a toner message on the display, while tray problems are reported as paper or tray errors. If pages come out progressively fainter across a whole run, that is the cartridge finishing, not the trays.

What guarantee backs this cartridge?

A one-year warranty, with returns free of charge for one year if the cartridge lets you down. Our shipping and returns page explains how a return works, and support is staffed Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

Where does my order ship from?

From the closest of our four warehouses — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California — so transit time stays short. Orders placed on business days generally go out the same or next business day.

About This Lexmark C746H2KG Black Cartridge for the C748dte

This single compatible Lexmark C746H2KG black cartridge is the standard 12,000-page unit for the tray-equipped C748dte, priced at $96.39 — about 0.80 cents per page. The extra tray changes how much paper the machine carries, not which cartridge it uses, so this is the same dependable black supply as the rest of the family takes. It is covered by a one-year warranty with one-year free returns; the rest of our range is on the Lexmark toner page.
