Frequently Asked Questions

On a wide-format CP5220, how does a fading yellow show itself?

On large pages it is hard to miss once you look: greens lose their yellow half and turn blue, and warm gradients cool down across the sheet. This listing is the yellow cartridge by itself — CE742A — so the colors that are still healthy stay in the machine. On plan-size and poster work there is a second clue: the far edge of the sheet, furthest into the color area, shows the shortage first, because that is where coverage has been heaviest for longest.

How do I confirm yellow is the low supply?

Print the supplies status page from the control panel, or check the printer's web interface. Then match the yellow reading against the code CE742A on the label of the cartridge in the yellow slot.

How many pages is it rated for?

Up to 7,300 pages at standard coverage. Wide-format pages with heavy color will draw that down faster than the rating suggests, since the test figure assumes ordinary page coverage.

What does $85.00 buy?

One sealed yellow cartridge — the single color in this listing. There is no bundle attached, and no need to disturb the other slots if their levels are fine.

Is changing it something I can do without a technician?

Yes. The cartridges are accessed from the front on this series; lift the old yellow out by its handle, seat the new cartridge in the yellow position, and the printer recalibrates.

What warranty applies?

A 1-year warranty, with 1-year free returns, so a faulty cartridge can be sent back within the year and the return postage is not on you.

About This Yellow Cartridge

This yellow cartridge is made for the Professional CP5220 series and is listed in our HP range as a single-color replacement. The CP5220 series is bought for its paper size, and big sheets are unforgiving of a weak color — which is why this listing keeps the replacement down to the one cartridge the status page names. It is dispatched from Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California, and the shipping and returns page explains delivery and returns. Support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

Check the badge on your machine against the complete list: the Color LaserJet CP5225, the Color LaserJet CP5225dn and the Color LaserJet CP5225n. The rest of the family is listed separately: the CE740A black cartridge, the CE741A cyan cartridge, the CE743A magenta cartridge and the 307A four-color set.
