Frequently Asked Questions

Our LBP654Cdw prints all day — how long will 6,300 pages actually last?

Work it back from your own volume. At 300 pages a week, this Canon 046H black (046HBK) lasts around five months. At 1,000 pages a week — a genuinely busy single-function machine — expect roughly six weeks. The 6,300 figure is rated at the standard 5% coverage of a typical text page, so a diet of dense forms and graphics will shorten those spans a little, while plain correspondence stretches them.

Why does a high-volume printer want the high-yield version specifically?

Fewer interruptions. Every cartridge change on a machine like the LBP654Cdw is a pause in someone else's job, and the standard Canon 046 — same $35.28 shelf price, rated 2,200 pages — would need changing almost three times as often. At heavy volume that difference is not convenience, it is workflow: the 046H keeps the printer printing and pushes the per-page cost down to about 0.56 cents against the standard's 1.60 cents.

Is this cartridge made by Canon?

No. It is a compatible 046HBK, manufactured by a third party to the Canon 046H specification for the machines in this family, the LBP654Cdw included. It carries the same cartridge code and the same 6,300-page yield target as the Canon-made version, at a third-party price — and it is backed by our warranty and returns cover rather than Canon's.

We are getting grey, washed-out text — is the cartridge finished?

Probably close to it. Fading that creeps in gradually across the page is the classic sign of a toner cartridge running low, as distinct from a sudden fault. On a high-volume machine it can arrive sooner than the calendar suggests, because the rating counts pages, not weeks. Fitting this fresh 046HBK is the straightforward test: if the blacks come back dense and even, the old cartridge was simply spent.

What about the color cartridges in the same machine?

The LBP654Cdw runs four cartridges: this black plus cyan, magenta and yellow from the same 046H family, each of those rated at 5,000 pages. Text-heavy printing drains black well ahead of the colors, so they are on separate listings and separate schedules — replace each as it fades rather than changing the full set at once.

What happens if the cartridge gives trouble?

It carries a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. A cartridge that faults within the year comes back to us at no cost to you, and if you have ordered the wrong item and the box is unopened, the return is free within the year too. The details live on our shipping and returns page.
