Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the XL yellow the cheapest of the XL singles?

At $53.45 it sits below the other XL colors, just as the standard yellow is the lowest-priced standard single. Spread over its 4,500-page rating, that price works out to about 1.19 cents per page — the cheapest color printing this platform offers.

Yellow at about 1.19 cents a page — what does that do to your overall color cost?

It pulls the whole set's economics down. A color page draws on all three colors, so the least expensive one being this cheap helps offset the others. Owners who convert all three colors to XL typically cut their color cost per page by well over half compared with the standard tier.

Which printers does this XL yellow fit?

It is the yellow for the TN635 color platform — HL-L8430CDW, HL-L8430CDWT, HL-L8570CDW, MFC-L8730CDW, MFC-L8930CDW, MFC-L8970CDW and MFC-EX575 — and it installs in the yellow slot of any machine in that family. It can be paired with any combination of standard, XL and XXL cartridges in the remaining slots.

Does a 4,500-page yellow make sense if your color printing is only occasional?

It can. Toner is a dry powder, so a cartridge does not dry out the way ink does; a sealed or installed XL yellow simply waits until you print. If the choice is between reordering standard yellows repeatedly or buying one XL, the XL's per-page math usually wins even at modest volumes.

What happens if you need to send this cartridge back?

Returns are free for a full year and the cartridge is warranted for a year as well — the full policy is on our shipping and returns page. Support is staffed Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, if you would rather talk it through first.

Is this the same yellow that comes in the XL set?

Same cartridge, same 4,500-page rating. Buying it singly is how you refresh yellow when the rest of the XL set still has life in it; the TN635 black options page shows the single-cartridge range if you are comparing tiers.
