Frequently Asked Questions

Our machine mostly makes copies rather than printing from a computer — does the 5,000-page rating still mean anything?

Yes. A page is a page to the toner cartridge: whether the image comes from a document on the glass or a file from a PC, the same amount of toner lands on the paper. The Canon 120 (part number 2617B001AA) is rated for up to 5,000 pages at standard 5% coverage, and a copy-heavy imageCLASS D machine — a D1120, D1150, D1320 or similar — will work through that rating at whatever pace the office copies and prints combined. A front desk running 400 pages a month can see a year from one cartridge; a busier desk at 1,000 a month, about five months.

What does a page cost on this single cartridge?

At $32.42 for 5,000 rated pages, the arithmetic is about 0.65 cents per page. That is the honest single-cartridge figure, and it is the most expensive way to buy this toner — the same Canon 120 cartridge drops to $23.18 apiece in the 2-pack and $17.63 in the 5-pack. The single makes sense when you want one cartridge in the machine and nothing on the shelf, or when you are putting a compatible cartridge in this machine for the first time and want to judge it before buying deeper.

Copies are coming out streaked, but prints from my computer look clean — is it the toner?

Probably not, and that split is the clue. If a printed page is clean but a copy of the same document is streaked, the problem is usually on the scanner side — a dirty platen glass, a mark on the scanning strip, or a scratched lid — because the printed page never passed through the scanner. If both prints and copies fade in the same place, suspect the cartridge: pull it out, rock it gently side to side to level the remaining toner, and test again. That two-minute check saves people from replacing a healthy cartridge.

Is this a Canon-made cartridge?

No. This is a compatible Canon 120 cartridge (2617B001AA), newly built to the same fit and 5,000-page yield specification as the original, and priced as a compatible. It is not a refilled Canon shell and not a remanufactured unit. Every cartridge we sell is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so if it fails early or prints badly, the remedy is a replacement or a refund rather than an argument.

The low-toner message appeared last week but output still looks fine. How long do I have?

Longer than the message implies. The warning is triggered by an estimate of remaining toner, and most imageCLASS D machines produce hundreds of perfectly usable pages after it first shows. Treat the warning as a prompt to plan, not to swap: faded output is the real signal, and even then, rocking the cartridge side to side usually recovers even density for a while. Swap when the whole page goes pale, not when the light comes on.

Where does it ship from, and who helps if I have a problem?

Orders leave from our four US warehouses — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California — so your cartridge ships from US stock, not from overseas. The full details, including the 1-year free returns terms, are on our shipping and returns page. If anything about the cartridge disappoints you, our support team answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
