MFC-J5930DW

The MFC-J5930DW belongs to Brother's INKvestment Tank line, and its ink shelf has a single rung: LC3029 Super High Yield. The Clever Supplies compatible cartridges below are chipped and ready to install, with a lifetime warranty. This is an INKvestment Tank printer — it does NOT take LC3017 or LC3019.

MFC-J5930DW Ink — The Tank Family, Clearly Separated
Brother lists the MFC-J5930DW for LC3029 and for no other cartridge in this group: LC3029BK up to 3,000 pages, LC3029C, LC3029M and LC3029Y up to 1,500 pages each (ISO/IEC 24711). This is an INKvestment Tank printer, and LC3029 is its single cartridge family — there is no second tier and no substitute on this page.
Start from the code on your old cartridge. If it reads LC3029, you are in the right place; if it reads LC3017 or LC3019, you are looking at a standard-cassette printer, not this one. The Tank list is six printers — MFC-J5830DW, MFC-J5830DW XL, MFC-J6535DW, MFC-J6535DW XL and MFC-J6935DW alongside this one — and LC3029 is the only cartridge for all six. The XL models take the same LC3029 cartridges as their non-XL counterparts; “XL” describes the printer bundle’s included ink, not a different cartridge.
Which LC3029 should you buy?
- One color ran out: replace just that color — black is $13.49; cyan, magenta and yellow are $11.99 each.
- Full refresh: the Set of 4 ($43.44) replaces all four positions in one box.
- Print every week: the Set of 9 ($89.91) stocks 3 black and 2 of each color — the shelf box for text-heavy work.
Chip, ink and everyday use
A spare LC3029 is interchangeable across this whole Tank shelf: the six Tank printers share one list, so a cartridge bought for any of them fits the MFC-J5930DW, and singles, the Set of 4 and the Set of 9 are all built on the same LC3029 cartridges — the sets are packaging, not a different cartridge. Every cartridge carries a new compatible chip. One honest expectation: the printer may show “Cannot Detect Ink Volume” with a compatible cartridge, and Brother's support text says the machine keeps working with that message; the same support text says the message typically only appears with generic, third-party or refilled cartridges, and the firmware note (A–K versus L and above) is covered in the product FAQs. All cartridges on this page carry a lifetime warranty with 1-year free returns.
