Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly does the "XL" in TN635XLBK buy me over the standard black?
Pages, at a better rate. The standard TN635BK is a 3,000-page cartridge at $108.79 — about 3.6 cents a page. This TN635XLBK carries a 5,500-page fill at $139.49, which brings black printing down to roughly 2.5 cents a page. You pay $30.70 more up front and get 2,500 extra pages for it, so the XL pays for itself well before it runs out in any office printing steadily.
Who is the high-yield black the wrong choice for?
Very light users. If your printer produces a few dozen pages a month, a 5,500-page cartridge could sit in the machine for years, and the standard fill's lower purchase price makes more sense for cash flow even at a higher per-page cost. The XL's economics reward volume: the more black you print each month, the more the roughly 30% lower running cost matters.
And what about the XXL above this one — is that better still?
On paper, yes: the TN635XXLBK holds 7,500 pages at $144.99, only $5.50 more than this XL, and works out near 1.9 cents a page. If your office prints black in real volume, the XXL is the sharpest value in the family. The XL remains the middle ground for teams that want high yield without committing to the very largest fill — but we would be doing you a disservice not to point at the XXL's arithmetic.
No. Cartridge tiers mix freely across the four slots. A TN635XLBK working alongside standard-yield colours is one of the most common setups for these machines, since most offices burn through far more black than colour. Choose each colour's tier by how much of that colour you actually print.
What returns and warranty cover applies here?
