Frequently Asked Questions

Why do faces in our photos look wrong before the printer even warns about magenta?

Because skin tones are magenta's home turf. Healthy complexions are built from magenta and yellow with very little cyan, so as the TN331M fades, faces turn waxy, grey-green or sunburnt-orange long before the cartridge is empty enough to trigger anyone's attention. Logos suffer the same way — reds slide towards orange, purples towards blue. If people in your printouts look seasick, check this cartridge first.

How far does 1,500 pages of magenta really go?

The rating assumes the standard test coverage of about 5% of the page. A text document with a red logo might use half that; a full-bleed marketing flyer can use six times it. So treat 1,500 as a comparison yardstick rather than a promise: a reports-and-letters office might see the better part of a year from this cartridge, while a team printing presentation decks weekly could spend it in a couple of months.

TN331M or TN336M for a marketing-heavy office?

The TN336M is the high-yield magenta on the same platform: 3,500 pages at $166.75, which is roughly 4.8 cents a page beside this cartridge's 6.7 cents. Decks, flyers and photo handouts are exactly the workload that burns magenta fastest, so a marketing-heavy team is precisely the one the high-yield was built for. Choose this TN331M when colour printing is occasional and the smaller ticket matters more than the per-page figure.

Which printers use the TN331M?

Brother's L8250/L8350 colour laser family in its five-model form: HL-L8250CDN, HL-L8350CDW, HL-L8350CDWT, MFC-L8600CDW and MFC-L8850CDW. The cartridge serves the magenta slot only, sits alongside the TN331C and TN331Y, and can be mixed with a high-yield black — each slot on these machines is independent.

Can I swap just the magenta, or do the colours have to go in as a set?

Just the magenta. Every cartridge on this platform is individually replaceable, and there is no benefit in retiring a cyan or yellow that still has life in it. The one discipline worth keeping: when the printer asks for a colour, note which one the others are reporting — if all three are near the end together, a planned set change beats three separate interruptions.

What happens if this cartridge arrives faulty?
