Frequently Asked Questions

How much longer between yellow changes does the TN315Y give over the standard yellow?

Well over twice as long. The standard TN310Y is rated at 1,500 pages; the TN315Y on this page is rated at 3,500. On a machine printing color every day, that is the difference between changing yellow every few weeks and changing it a handful of times a year — and yellow, being the hardest color to judge by eye, is the one whose sudden empty warning is most disruptive when it lands mid-job.

Which printers does the TN315Y fit?

Brother's HL-4140CN, HL-4150CDN, HL-4570CDW and HL-4570CDWT; the MFC-9460CDN, MFC-9560CDW and MFC-9970CDW; and the DCP-9055CDN and DCP-9270CDN. The TN315Y takes the yellow slot in each of them, in the same fitting as the standard-yield yellow.

What does a page cost with this cartridge?

At $173.29 — $69.32 under the $242.61 list price — across a 3,500-page rating, the TN315Y works out at about 5 cents a rated page, against roughly 7.2 cents for the standard yellow. High-yield economics in one line: a higher bill today in exchange for a lower cost on every page that follows, worthwhile precisely in proportion to how much color the machine prints.

Why does yellow run down on photo and chart work when it looks so faint?

Faint on its own does not mean lightly used. Yellow is blended into greens, oranges, golds and skin tones, so a colourful page pulls yellow from the cartridge even when almost no pure yellow shows in the finished print. Photo-heavy output is especially thirsty. That is why the cartridge that looks least important on the page can still be the one your busiest color machine empties sooner than expected.

Is it worth keeping a spare TN315Y on the shelf?

For a machine the office depends on, yes. An unopened cartridge stores well for a long period in a cool, dry cupboard, and yellow's low visibility means its warning often arrives as a surprise. A shelf spare turns that surprise into a two-minute swap. Lighter-use machines can safely order on demand instead — delivery from our warehouses is quick across most of the country.

What cover comes with the TN315Y?

Returns run for 30 days from delivery on genuine Brother products, in all cases, under the terms published on our shipping and returns page, and Brother's manufacturer warranty covers the cartridge itself. If you need advice before ordering, support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
