My photos have started coming out pink — could the cyan cartridge be the reason?

Quite possibly. Cyan is the ingredient that builds blues, greens and realistic skies; when the TN221C runs low, color balance tips towards red and magenta, so skies wash out, foliage turns muddy and photos take on a warm pink cast. If black text still prints crisply while color work drifts, the cyan supply is the first suspect.

What does cyan actually do in a color print?

Every color on the page is mixed from cyan, magenta and yellow. Cyan carries the blue half of the spectrum: company logos, charts, hyperlinks printed to paper, water, sky and the green of anything leafy all depend on it. A weak cyan cartridge therefore shows up in business graphics just as much as in photographs.

How long will 1,400 pages of cyan last in a mostly black-and-white office?

Often a very long time. Offices that print color only for the occasional chart or letterhead may take two years or more to work through a TN221C, because most pages draw little or no cyan. The rating counts color pages at standard coverage, and light color use stretches the real interval between changes considerably.

Do I have to change the other colors at the same time?
