Why do our printed reds look orange and skin tones look yellow?

Because red is not a toner — it is a mixture, and magenta is half of it. When the TN115M in an HL-4070CDW or MFC-9450CDN starts running dry, the machine lays down progressively less magenta, so reds slide toward orange, purples lose their depth, and faces in photographs take on a jaundiced cast while blues and yellows still print correctly. That selective failure is the tell: a global problem fades everything, a dying magenta only breaks the warm half of the palette. Replacing this cartridge is the fix, and no amount of cleaning cycles substitutes for it.

What does the TN115M cost me per colour page?

Which machines take the TN115M?

The Brother colour generation built on the TN110 / TN115 system: HL-4040CN, HL-4040CDN and HL-4070CDW printers; DCP-9040CN and DCP-9045CDN; and the MFC-9440CN and MFC-9450CDN multifunctions. All of them pair these cartridges with the DR110CL drum unit. If your current magenta is marked TN110M or TN115M, this is the same fitting in the high-yield size. Owners of the later HL-3140CW series need TN221M / TN225M cartridges — a different system entirely.

We print mostly black text. Why did magenta run out at all?

A common surprise on this platform. Colour machines use small amounts of colour toner during calibration cycles and cleaning routines even on text-only workloads, and any colour in a document — a logo in a letterhead, a hyperlink, a chart in an otherwise plain report — draws on the magenta. Over a year or two of "black" printing, that background consumption empties a colour cartridge. Yes — genuine cartridges are shelf-stable for a long period when stored sealed, flat, and away from heat and direct sunlight. Buying the TN115M when the low warning appears, rather than when the printer stops, is the pattern we recommend: fit it when output actually degrades, and let the reserve in the old cartridge carry you in the meantime. Do not shake an exhausted cartridge to squeeze out extra pages on this platform; uneven toner distribution shows up as blotchy colour.
