Frequently Asked Questions

What does the TN115BK give me over the standard TN110BK?

Exactly double the run between changes, in the same slot. The TN115BK is the high-yield black for Brother's first color LED generation, rated at 5,000 pages where the standard TN110BK is rated at 2,500, and it fits the same machines with no modification. At our price of $123.83 — a saving of $49.53 against the $173.36 list — the per-page cost lands around two and a half cents, roughly half the running cost of feeding the printer standard-yield blacks. For an HL-4070CDW or MFC-9440CN that prints daily, that difference compounds quickly.

Which printers does the TN115BK fit?

Seven models from the HL-4040 generation: the HL-4040CN, HL-4040CDN and HL-4070CDW printers, the DCP-9040CN and DCP-9045CDN, and the MFC-9440CN and MFC-9450CDN multifunctions. All seven share the TN110 / TN115 toner system and the DR110CL drum unit. If your current black cartridge is coded TN110BK or TN115BK, you are in the right place; the newer HL-3140CW generation uses the TN221/TN225 system instead and this cartridge does not fit it.

Why is the black so much cheaper per page than the colors in this family?

Two reasons. The black is rated higher — 5,000 pages against 4,000 for each TN115 color — and it is priced lower: $123.83 against $181.99 for a color cartridge. The result is black text at roughly two and a half cents a page while color pages run nearer four and a half cents. That gap is normal for this platform and worth knowing when you budget: a document that is 90% text costs a fraction of a full-color page even though both come out of the same machine.

Will the printer accept the high-yield cartridge without any setup?

Yes. The TN115BK is a genuine Brother cartridge built for these exact models — the machine reads it as the high-yield black and simply counts down from the larger capacity. There is no menu change, no firmware step and nothing to configure. The only routine worth keeping is the same one as any cartridge change on this platform: seat it firmly, and if print quality ever dips, slide the corona-wire tab on the drum unit as the manual describes.

When should I order a replacement — at the first "toner low" warning?

You have more time than the warning suggests. On this generation, the low-toner message appears with a useful reserve still in the cartridge, and many owners get weeks of light printing past it. The practical approach: order when the warning first appears, keep printing on the old cartridge until output actually fades, then swap. Genuine cartridges store well, so a TN115BK bought on the warning will sit happily in a cupboard until the day it is needed.

What cover do I get with this cartridge?

Genuine Brother purchases here can be returned within 30 days of delivery, in all cases, and the cartridge is backed by Brother's manufacturer warranty — full details are on our shipping and returns page. If a cartridge arrives damaged or the printer rejects it, contact our support team Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, inside the return window and we will sort it out at store level.
