Brother-LC65
The LC65HY tier is the high-yield half of the LC61 cassette family — LC65HYBK black up to 900 pages and LC65HYC, LC65HYM, LC65HYY up to 750 pages each (ISO/IEC 24711) — and it fits only four printers: MFC-5890CN, MFC-5895CW, MFC-6490CW and MFC-6890CDW. The compatible singles, Set of 4 and Set of 10 below are for those four models only.

LC65HY Ink Cartridges — High Yield, Four Printers Only
Sellers often stretch this tier across the whole LC61 family. Brother's own fit list does not: the LC65HY cartridges work in the MFC-5890CN, MFC-5895CW, MFC-6490CW and MFC-6890CDW, and in no other LC61 printer. If your model is not one of the four, the cartridge it takes is the standard LC61 — same cassette family, smaller fill.
On the four models, LC65HY and LC61 cartridges mix slot by slot, so a high-yield black can run beside standard colors. Also note the codes: the official high-yield codes carry the HY (LC65HYBK, LC65HYC, LC65HYM, LC65HYY); the shortened 'LC65BK' form seen in some listings is not a Brother code. Brother's own fit list is the authority here: if a listing shows LC65HY against any other model in this family, it is the listing that is wrong. At $8.99 for up to 900 pages, the high-yield black works out at about a cent a page; the colors, at $8.99 for up to 750 pages, are about 1.2 cents. If your printer is one of the other 23, its shelf is the standard LC61 page — the same cassette family with the smaller fill.
Which LC65HY should you buy?
- One color at a time: black, cyan, magenta and yellow — $8.99 each.
- Full refresh: the Set of 4 ($29.94) puts one of each color in one box.
- Print every week: the Set of 10 ($59.85) puts four blacks and two of each color in one box.
