Frequently Asked Questions

I print lightly but almost always double-sided — what does one cartridge cover?

Count sides: the TN450 is rated at 2,600 of them. On the HL-2242D duplexed, that is about 1,300 sheets of paper — for a light user printing, say, a 20-page double-sided document a week, that is well over a year of documents from one $27.13 cartridge, with the filing drawer filling at half speed.

At my low volume, how long will I go between cartridge changes?

Long enough to forget how the swap works — which is fine, because it takes about two minutes: front cover open, assembly out, click the new cartridge into the drum, slide it back. At light volumes a TN450 is realistically a multi-year install, and toner does not dry out while it waits.

Would the TN420 standard cartridge suit me better?

It is a legitimate option: 1,200 pages, same fit, lower upfront price. The honest split is this — if the printer may be replaced within a year or two, the TN420 spends less today; if the HL-2242D is staying, the TN450's lower per-page cost (about 1.04¢) wins and ends the subject. Duplexing does not change that maths either way; it only halves your paper use.

Which printers does this cartridge fit?

DCP-7060D, DCP-7065DN, HL-2130, HL-2132, HL-2220, HL-2230, HL-2240, HL-2240D, HL-2242D, HL-2250DN, HL-2270DW, HL-2275DW, HL-2280DW, Intellifax 2840, Intellifax 2940, MFC-7240, MFC-7360N, MFC-7365DN and MFC-7460DN

Do I need to think about the drum on a light-use duplex machine?

Almost certainly not for a very long time. The DR420 drum is rated around 12,000 pages — at light duplex volumes that is many years away, and the printer will flag it if the day ever comes. When it does, the drum is $30.50.

What guarantee do I get?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns — full details on our shipping and returns page.
