Frequently Asked Questions

Our DCP-9040 copies mostly black documents — does a high-yield black make sense on a color machine?

Yes, and it is usually the smartest buy for this model. The DCP-9040 treats black as its own supply, so copy-heavy days draw almost entirely on the TN115BK. At 5,000 pages and $44.92 — about 0.90¢ per page — it carries long runs of invoices, forms and file copies without touching the color cartridges at all.

Which printers does this cartridge fit?

This TN115BK works in the full TN115 color platform: DCP-9040CN, DCP-9045CDN, HL-4040CDN, HL-4040CN, HL-4070CDW, MFC-9440CN and MFC-9450CDN

What happens when a color runs out — can I keep copying in black?

On this platform each color is an independent cartridge. When cyan, magenta or yellow empties, you swap only that one; black copying and printing continue from the TN115BK as long as it has toner. Nothing forces a full set change.

How does the TN115BK compare with the standard TN110BK?

The TN110BK is the standard-yield cartridge for the same machines at 2,500 pages. The TN115BK doubles that to 5,000 pages, so a copy desk changes black half as often and pays less per page. If your DCP-9040 sits idle most weeks, the smaller cartridge is fine; for daily copying, high yield wins.

Is a full four-color set a better deal?

If your colors are also aging, the TN115 four-color set at $127.02 bundles this black with the 4,000-page cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges for less than buying the four separately. If only black is low, this single cartridge is the cheaper move.

What protection comes with it?

Every Clever Supplies compatible cartridge carries a one-year warranty and one-year free returns — the full terms are on the shipping and returns page. Orders ship from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA or CA, and support answers 9 AM–5 PM CST.

About This TN115BK for the DCP-9040

A copy desk lives on black toner: the color cartridges in a DCP-9040 may last a year while black turns over again and again. This compatible TN115BK is built for exactly that rhythm — 5,000 pages at roughly 0.90¢ a page, sealed and ready to drop in. See the rest of the range on the Brother toner page.
