Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this a MICR cartridge rather than a regular one?

MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. The toner in this 113R00712 cartridge is formulated with magnetic particles so that the account and routing numbers along the bottom of a check can be read by bank scanning equipment. It looks like ordinary black toner on the page, but a standard cartridge cannot do that job — this one is made for printing checks on a Phaser 4510.

Why does it cost the same as the standard cartridge?

This MICR single is $121.22 — exactly the price of our regular 113R00712 high-yield cartridge. We are not charging a premium for the MICR formulation on this listing, and the rating is the same 19,000 pages. What you are choosing between is toner type, not yield or price.

How many checks can one cartridge print?

The rating is up to 19,000 pages at standard coverage. A check page carries very little toner — a payee line, an amount and the MICR line — so a payroll or accounts-payable run uses far less per page than a dense text document. In practice, a small business printing checks weekly can expect one cartridge to last a very long time.

Which printers can I use it in?

The same Phaser 4510 family as the standard cartridge: Phaser 4510, Phaser 4510/YB, Phaser 4510/YDT and Phaser 4510/YDX. If one of those machines handles your check stock, this MICR version slots into the same cartridge bay.

Can I print ordinary documents with it too?

It will print them, and the output reads perfectly well, but there is little reason to spend MICR toner on memos. Most offices keep this cartridge for check runs and a standard cartridge for everyday work, swapping them as needed — both are the same 113R00712 fitting.

What warranty and returns cover a MICR cartridge?

The same cover as our other cartridges: a 1-year warranty and free returns for a full year. Terms are set out on our shipping and returns page, shipments leave from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California warehouses, and support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
