Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this MICR version of the 108R00909 different?

MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. This cartridge is filled with MICR toner — a magnetic formulation that bank readers scan along the routing and account line at the bottom of a check. It is the 108R00909 cartridge built for check printing, where the standard version is built for everyday documents.

Do I pay a premium for the MICR formulation?

Not on this listing. The MICR cartridge is $39.23 — exactly the same price as the standard 108R00909 single. You choose between them by what you print, not by what you spend.

Which printers can I run checks from with this cartridge?

Any of the machines that take the 108R00909: the Phaser 3140, Phaser 3155, Phaser 3160, Phaser 3160B, Phaser 3160N and Phaser 3160V_B. Small businesses commonly dedicate one of these compact printers to check runs.

Can I print ordinary documents with it too?

It will put black text on a page like any toner, but its reason to exist is the check line — the magnetic signal ordinary toner does not produce. Most buyers keep a standard cartridge in the machine for daily work and swap this one in when it is time to print checks.

How far does one cartridge go on check runs?

It carries the same rating as the standard cartridge: up to 2,500 pages. If your check stock runs several checks to a sheet, that translates into a substantially larger number of individual checks per cartridge.

What if the cartridge does not perform?

It is backed by a 1-year warranty, with free returns for a full year — the same cover as every cartridge we sell. Terms are spelled out on our shipping and returns page, and the support team is on hand Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
