Frequently Asked Questions

What does MICR mean on this cartridge?

MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. The toner in this 106R02311 cartridge carries magnetic particles, so the character line printed along the bottom of a check can be read by bank sorting equipment. Ordinary toner prints the same shapes but cannot be machine-read that way.

Can I print my own checks with it?

That is exactly what it is for. Load it in a machine from the WorkCentre 3315/3325 family — the WorkCentre 3315dn is the reference model — pair it with check stock and your accounting software, and the routing and account line comes out in readable MICR characters instead of plain toner.

Does the MICR version cost extra?

No. It is $40.31 — precisely the same price as the standard 106R02311 single cartridge — and it carries the same rating of up to 5,000 pages. You are choosing a different toner formulation, not paying a premium for it.

Can I also use it for everyday documents?

Yes, it prints ordinary black text perfectly well, and nothing stops you running letters or invoices through it. Most buyers still keep it dedicated to check runs so the MICR cartridge is always the one in the machine when payroll or payables go out.

Which printers does the MICR cartridge fit?

The same platform as the standard cartridge: WorkCentre 3315, WorkCentre 3315dn, WorkCentre 3325, WorkCentre 3325DN and WorkCentre 3325DNI, together with the Phaser-badged 3315 and 3325 listings in this family. If the machine takes a regular 106R02311, it takes this MICR version.

What if a check run goes wrong because of the cartridge?

The cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty, and returns are free for a full year under the terms on our shipping and returns page. Support answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
