Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this a MICR cartridge?

MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. This cartridge is filled with magnetic toner so the numbers along the bottom of a printed check can be read by bank sorting equipment. It carries the same 106R01371 supply number and the same 14,000-page high-yield rating as the standard cartridge — the difference is what is inside, not the fit.

Why print checks on a Phaser 3600 at all?

Payroll, vendor payments and refund checks are the usual reasons. Printing in-house on blank check stock with a MICR cartridge avoids pre-printed check inventory and lets a small business or accounting office produce a handful of checks — or a full run — whenever it needs them.

Does the MICR version cost more than the regular one?

No. It is $120.67, exactly the same price as the standard 106R01371 cartridge. The check-printing capability does not come with a premium attached on this listing, and the yield is identical at up to 14,000 pages.

Can I use it for ordinary documents too?

You can — it prints normal black text like any toner cartridge. Most buyers dedicate it to the check printer, though, since regular office printing is cheaper to leave to the standard cartridge and it keeps the MICR unit reserved for the runs that actually need magnetic toner.

Which printers does it fit?

The Phaser 3600, Phaser 3600B, Phaser 3600DN and Phaser 3600EDN — the same machines that take the regular 106R01371. If your empty cartridge shows that number, this MICR version drops into the same slot.

What warranty and returns apply?

The MICR cartridge is covered by the same one-year warranty and one-year free returns as the rest of our compatibles, set out on the shipping and returns page. We ship from IL, PA, GA and CA, take support questions Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and keep the wider range on the Xerox toner page.

About This 106R01371 MICR Cartridge

A specialty version of a familiar cartridge: the 106R01371 your Phaser already knows, filled with magnetic toner for check printing and priced at the standard cartridge's $120.67. For offices that cut their own checks, it turns the everyday workgroup printer into the check printer — no second machine, no pre-printed stock, and the same 14,000-page rating as the regular high-yield unit.
