Frequently Asked Questions

How long should one cartridge last in an SCX-5637 that prints and copies all day?

The MLT-D205L is rated at 5,000 pages, and copies draw on it exactly as prints do. A multifunction turning out 1,500 pages a month will see roughly three months from one cartridge; a quieter machine at 500 a month can run close to ten. Scanning, by contrast, uses no toner at all.

Is 5,000 pages a realistic figure, or a best case?

It is a measured figure, taken at the industry-standard 5% coverage — a typical page of business text. Output heavier than that, such as dense tables, forms with shaded boxes or full-page graphics, uses more toner per sheet and lowers the count; light memos and drafts can push it higher.

What does each printed page cost with this cartridge?

At $39.02 for a rated 5,000 pages, the toner element works out at about 0.78 cents per page. That is the number to hold against the SCX-5637's other running costs when you work out what the machine costs the office each month.

How does this compare with the standard-yield MLT-D205S?

The MLT-D205S is the standard-yield sibling at around 2,000 pages, in the same cartridge body. This MLT-D205L holds two and a half times as much printing, so on a machine that works all day it means fewer changes, fewer orders and a lower cost per page — the S cartridge suits only genuinely light use.

Prints are fading on one side — is that the toner or the drum?

Overall fading that improves briefly when the cartridge is rocked gently side to side points to toner running low. The same mark repeating down the page at regular intervals points instead to the separate MLT-R205 drum unit, which is a different part from this cartridge and is changed on its own schedule.

What cover comes with this cartridge?

Every cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty, with free returns for one year if it leaks, streaks or fails early. The shipping and returns page explains the process, orders are dispatched from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and support runs Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
