Does the Xpress C430 need all four cartridges replaced at once?
No. The Xpress C430 is a compact color printer with four independent toner slots — CLT-K404S black, CLT-C404S cyan, CLT-M404S magenta and CLT-Y404S yellow — each monitored separately. Black depletes fastest on documents; the color trio wears evenly on graphics and photos. Swap only the cartridge the printer flags as empty, and consider a full four-pack only when two or more colors are low simultaneously.
My Xpress C430 prints look dull and faded. Where do I start troubleshooting?
Start in the driver: if toner-save or eco mode is on, the Xpress C430 will print washed-out pages indefinitely. With normal density restored, remove the faded color cartridge, rock it gently side to side to redistribute toner, and reseat it. Dullness in one color implicates that CLT-404S cartridge; dullness in all four at once points past the cartridges to the transfer belt or imaging components.
The Xpress C430 shows a toner error right after I installed a new cartridge. What now?
Turn the Xpress C430 off, pull the new cartridge, and wipe the chip contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, then reinstall it firmly until it clicks. New cartridges exposed to heat or cold in transit sometimes misread until they reach room temperature. If a compatible cartridge still errors, the printer firmware is likely rejecting its chip — reseating rarely fixes a true chip mismatch.
