Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this cartridge sold under the number 330-5843 instead of a printer name?

Because the number is the reliable identifier. Printer model families share cartridges across several machines, and Dell assigns each cartridge its own part number — 330-5843 is the high-yield magenta for the Color Laser 5130cdn line. Matching the number on your old cartridge or in the printer's supply screen to 330-5843 is the surest way to order the right magenta the first time.

Our reds look orange and skin tones have gone strange — is magenta running out?

Very likely, yes. Magenta is half of every red the printer makes and a major part of natural skin tones, so a fading 330-5843 shows up first as orange-tinted reds, dull purples and faces that look sunburned or gray. Blues and greens stay normal because they barely use magenta. A supply-level check or a color test page will confirm it in under a minute.

What does magenta printing cost per page with the 330-5843?

The cartridge is $47.31 with a 12,000-page rating, so magenta coverage costs roughly 0.39 cents per page at standard 5% coverage. A full ream of 500 pages accounts for only about 4% of the cartridge, and one 330-5843 holds the equivalent of 24 reams of rated output — that long interval between changes is the real saving on a shared 5130cdn.

Do I have to change the other colors when I replace the magenta?

No. Each color in the 5130cdn is its own cartridge with its own supply level, and the 330-5843 swaps in on its own without disturbing cyan, yellow or black. Replace colors as each one actually runs out — there is no benefit to changing a cartridge that still has useful life in it.

How should I store a spare 330-5843?

Keep it sealed in its bag, flat, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. A sealed compatible cartridge stores well for an extended period, so keeping one spare on the shelf is a sensible way to make sure a dead magenta never stops the office mid-job. Open the bag only when you are ready to install it.

What warranty and returns cover does this cartridge come with?

The 330-5843 is a compatible cartridge covered by a one-year warranty and one year of free returns, detailed on our shipping and returns page. Stock ships from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and our support team answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST. If you are stocking up on other colors for the same machine, the range is collected on our Dell toner page.
