Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is in this 2 Black Set?

Two identical CE264X black cartridges — the 646X high-yield black — in one box at $174.94. Each cartridge is individually rated at 17,000 pages. The set exists so that one cartridge can live in the machine while its twin waits sealed on the shelf.

Why buy two blacks at once for one machine?

Because the black cartridge on a CM4540-series MFP never empties at a convenient moment. With the second cartridge already in the cupboard, a change takes minutes and the reorder is placed calmly afterwards. Offices without a spare instead discover the empty cartridge in the middle of a print run — and then wait on a delivery.

Should both cartridges go into service at the same time?

No. The machine takes one black cartridge. Install the first, and keep the second sealed until the first is finished. Toner cartridges store best in their sealed packaging, flat, away from heat and sunlight, so the spare is in exactly the right state while it waits.

Does the second cartridge age while it sits?

Sealed toner cartridges keep well over normal office stock cycles. The practical routine is first-in, first-out: when the spare goes into the machine, that is the signal to order the next set, so the shelf is never empty and no cartridge sits for an excessive time.

Will the pair cover our copying as well as printing?

Yes. Copies draw on the black cartridge exactly like prints, and received faxes print in black too; scanning is the only toner-free function. Each of the two cartridges carries the same 17,000-page rating regardless of which function consumes it.

How are the two cartridges covered if one is faulty?

Both are covered by the same 1-year warranty, with 1-year free returns. We ship from IL, PA, GA and CA, and support is available Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST. The Shipping & Returns page covers delivery, and the set is a Clever Supplies compatible product for HP CM4540 machines such as the Color LaserJet CM4540.

About This CE264X 2 Black Set

Two CE264X (646X) black cartridges, each rated at 17,000 pages, sold together for $174.94. The logic of the set is a rotation, not a discount trick: one working, one waiting, and a black change that never becomes an emergency purchase.
