Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is in this 2 pack?

Two compatible CF226X MICR black toner cartridges, each one filled with magnetic toner and rated at 9,000 pages. MICR — Magnetic Ink Character Recognition — is what makes the toner special: the iron oxide in it lets bank readers detect the routing and account line at the bottom of a check. The pack price is $50.95 for the pair.

Why does check printing specifically call for a spare on the shelf?

Because a check run is a deadline with names on it. Payroll and vendor payments cannot drift two days while a replacement ships, and a MICR cartridge gives little warning before its magnetic signal weakens. With this pack, one cartridge works in the printer while the second waits sealed — the run is never hostage to a delivery date.

How should the two cartridges be rotated?

Strictly one at a time. The installed cartridge serves until test checks show its signal fading; then the sealed spare goes in and a new spare is ordered the same week. Write the install date on the working cartridge's box and keep the spent unit in it until the replacement arrives, so there is never a mystery cartridge loose in the cabinet.

Should we test again after fitting the spare?

Yes — treat every cartridge change as a fresh start. Print a few test checks and have your bank run them through its reader before any live run. No cartridge can guarantee a bank will accept your checks, since stock and software alignment matter too, and the bank's read on the test batch is the confirmation that counts.

How do we stop the spare being grabbed for ordinary printing?

Store it as check stock, not as toner stock. Keep the sealed cartridge in the same locked place as the blank checks, marked "MICR — checks only," well away from the standard black cartridges used for letters and reports. A standard cartridge installed by mistake prints checks that look right and read as nothing at the bank.

Can the sealed cartridge wait a long time before it is needed?

Kept sealed in its packaging, in a cool, dry cabinet out of direct sunlight, a spare waits patiently. Avoid heat and damp, keep the box upright, and always open the older of any two spares first. If the wait stretches, a test batch after installation — read by the bank — confirms the stored cartridge is performing before real checks depend on it.

About This CF226X MICR 2 Pack

This pack pairs two compatible CF226X MICR cartridges for the HP LaserJet Pro family — the line represented by the LaserJet M402d — arranged the way check printing actually consumes them: one in service, one in reserve. Each cartridge carries magnetic toner rated at 9,000 pages, and the pair costs $50.95.

Stock is held in our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California warehouses. Both cartridges are covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns under our shipping and returns terms, and our support team answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

One cartridge serves the whole group — the LaserJet M402d, LaserJet M402dn, LaserJet M402dw and LaserJet MFP M426fdn. There is no standard-yield two-pack in the MICR line; the closest standard option is the 26A MICR single (CF226A). Model-named listings for this yield sit at the 26X MICR cartridge for the M402 series (CF226X).
