The 88 black is the light-use tier of Epson's DURABrite platform, and this page sells it as exactly that. Our compatible T088120-S cartridge holds DURABrite Ultra pigment ink — the same ink family as the platform's bigger tiers, in the smaller Moderate Capacity fill Epson designed for printers that work occasionally rather than daily. One honesty note up front: Epson publishes no official page-yield figure for the 88 cartridges that we could verify, so this page prints no page number for it. Seller figures elsewhere are not Epson ratings and are not repeated here as specifications.

The cartridge carries a new compatible chip of the same Intellidge generation as its platform siblings, and the chip is this family's weak point: recognition problems are a real, known risk in this cartridge generation, so seat the cartridge firmly until it clicks and restart the printer before assuming a fault. The sibling colours are T088220-S cyan, T088320-S magenta and T088420-S yellow, all Moderate Capacity pigment cartridges.
Fit is narrow and must be checked, not assumed: this cartridge is verified for five printers only — the Stylus CX4400, CX4450, CX7400, NX200 and NX400. Other printers on the same DURABrite platform do not necessarily take the 88 tier, and at least one near relation is officially documented as not taking it — if your model is not one of the five, do not order this cartridge. Covered by our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which printers take the T088120?
Five models, verified one by one against Epson's own support FAQs: Stylus CX4400, Stylus CX4450, Stylus CX7400, Stylus NX200 and Stylus NX400. The 88 tier fits only a subset of its platform — a model that takes the platform's other tiers does not automatically take this one, so check your badge against these five before ordering.
How many pages does it print?
Honest answer: we do not print a figure, because no official Epson yield for the 88 cartridges could be verified from Epson's own documentation. Reseller listings quote numbers for this code, but they disagree with each other and none is an Epson rating, so none appears here as a specification. What defines this tier is its position: Moderate Capacity, Epson's light-use fill below the standard tier.
What does Moderate Capacity mean?
It is Epson's own name for this tier — the smallest fill on this DURABrite platform, intended for light, occasional printing. The standard tier above it is the 69 family; on three of the five verified printers (CX7400, NX200, NX400) that tier fits too. On the CX4400 and CX4450, Epson's documentation lists the 88 only.
What ink is inside?
DURABrite Ultra pigment ink — the same pigment formulation as the platform's other tiers. The tier difference is the fill amount, not the ink: documents still get pigment ink's smudge and water resistance once dry.
Does it have a chip, and will my printer recognise it?
Yes, it carries a new compatible chip. Stated plainly: this cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — and in this cartridge generation recognition failure is a known, comparatively common problem, not a rare one. Seat the cartridge until it clicks and restart the printer first; a cartridge that still will not recognise is replaced under the lifetime warranty. We do not claim recognition is guaranteed in every case.
My printer is on the same platform but not in your list of five. Will it fit?
Do not assume so. Epson has officially documented at least one close platform relative as not compatible with the 88 tier, which is exactly why this page lists only the five models verified from Epson's own FAQs. If your model is not listed, this is not your cartridge.
Can I mix this 88 black with 69 colours, or the other way round?
On the CX7400, NX200 and NX400, yes — Epson's FAQs list both tiers for those printers and slots read independently. On the CX4400 and CX4450, Epson's documentation lists the 88 only, so keep all four positions on 88 cartridges there.
How do I install it?
Have the new cartridge ready before removing the old one. Peel only the yellow tape, do not touch the chip contacts, press the cartridge into the black holder until it clicks, close the cover and let the printer charge the ink.
How much ink is in it, in millilitres?
We publish no figure: no verified millilitre value for this family is available from Epson's documentation, so the Volume field is left blank rather than filled with a reseller's claim.
Is this a genuine Epson cartridge?
No — it is a Clever Supplies compatible cartridge built to the T088120-S specification, labelled compatible on the box and on this page. It is not manufactured by Epson.
What does the lifetime warranty cover?
A cartridge that fails to perform — not recognised after troubleshooting, leaking, or printing poorly from new — is replaced under the lifetime warranty. Free returns apply within the first year.
Single or the Set of 4?
This single if only black is low. The Set of 4 replaces all four positions at once and suits a printer being brought back into service after sitting idle.
