Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the 2-pack bring the per-cartridge price down to $47.08?

Because two cartridges in one box cost less to handle than two cartridges in two orders. The Canon 117 black single is $56.33; this pair is $94.16, which averages $47.08 a cartridge and saves $18.50 against buying the same two cartridges separately. Looked at the other way, the second cartridge in the box effectively adds $37.83 to the first one's price. The cartridges themselves are identical to the single — same part number, same 6,000-page rating — the pack price is purely the reward for ordering your spare at the same time as your working cartridge.

What does 12,000 pages of black look like as a supply plan?

It looks like a year with one less thing to think about, for most offices. Each cartridge is rated for up to 6,000 pages, so the pack holds 12,000 pages: at 1,000 pages a month that is a full year of mono printing from a single order, and even a busy shared machine at 2,500 a month gets close to five months from it. When the first cartridge goes in, the second is already on the shelf — the reorder conversation happens once, calmly, instead of twice under deadline.

Which machines does this 2-pack fit?

Exactly the machines the single cartridge fits: the imageCLASS printers whose supply list names the Canon 117 black, part number 2578B001AA. A 2-pack changes nothing about compatibility — it is two of the same cartridge in one box — so if your machine takes the 117 black, this pack is the economical way to buy it, whether the two cartridges feed one machine across the year or two machines side by side.

Does the pack make more sense for one printer or two?

Both patterns work, and offices use it each way. On a single printer it is the working-plus-spare arrangement: one cartridge in the machine, one sealed on the shelf, and a toner-out stoppage becomes a two-minute swap instead of a delivery wait. Across two machines that share the 117 cartridge, it is simply one cartridge each at the pack price. The only setup where the pack is the wrong buy is a machine about to be retired — a spare cartridge for a printer you no longer own is no bargain at any per-cartridge price.

How should the second cartridge be stored until its turn?

Sealed in its bag, lying flat, in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight and away from radiators and hot equipment rooms. Toner is a dry powder and keeps well, but heat and light age a cartridge over months, and an opened one belongs in a machine, not back on the shelf. Write the arrival month on the box so the oldest stock is always used first. Stored that way, the spare will print exactly as well in month ten as it would have in week one.

What happens if one cartridge in the pack is faulty?

That cartridge is covered on its own: a 1-year warranty against defects and 1-year free returns if it does not perform as it should, the same cover as a cartridge bought singly — including if it is the spare that waited on the shelf before being installed. One fault does not involve the other cartridge. Full terms are on our shipping and returns page, and support answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
