Frequently Asked Questions
How fast do charts, highlights and logos really burn through a 4,500-page yellow?
Faster than intuition suggests. Yellow hides inside greens, warm greys, skin tones and most chart palettes, so a colour-printing office draws on it constantly. The rating on this TN635XLY is 4,500 pages at standard 5% coverage; graphics-rich work pulls that figure down in real use, but even so, the XL fill lasts two and a half times as long as the 1,800-page standard yellow it replaces in the same slot.
Why upgrade the yellow at all if it is so hard to see on the page?
Because the printer stops when it is empty, visible or not. An office that runs out of yellow mid-week loses colour printing entirely until a cartridge arrives. The XL tier is insurance plus economics: fewer stoppages, and a per-page cost of about 4.6 cents against roughly 6 cents for the standard TN635Y. For colour-dependent teams, the yellow is the last cartridge they want to be caught without.
Is there an even larger yellow than this one?
Yes — the super high-yield TN635XXLY stretches to 6,500 pages and brings the per-page cost down to roughly 3.9 cents. It costs more upfront than this XL, so the choice is about volume: steady colour work justifies the XXL, moderate colour work is well served by the TN635XLY's 4,500 pages. Both are the same fitting, so moving up later is painless.
Will this cartridge sit happily in storage if I buy ahead?
Yes, kept sealed. Genuine Brother cartridges tolerate shelf storage well as long as the bag stays closed and the box is kept flat, at room temperature, away from strong light and heat. Buying the TN635XLY before the current yellow dies is standard practice in busy offices precisely because an empty colour halts the printer.
How do I return this cartridge if there is a problem?
You have a 30-day window from delivery to send back any genuine Brother product, and it applies in every case — defect, damage or wrong item. After that, cover is provided by Brother's manufacturer warranty. The process is explained on our shipping & returns page, and support is available 9 AM to 5 PM CST, Monday to Friday.
