Frequently Asked Questions

The HL-4040 is a print-only workhorse — what does black cost per page?

About 0.90¢. This TN115BK is rated at 5,000 pages and priced at $44.92, so a month of statements, packing slips or correspondence costs little more than the paper it lands on. For a machine that exists purely to print, that per-page figure is the whole story.

Which printers run this cartridge?

It belongs to the TN115 color platform: DCP-9040CN, DCP-9045CDN, HL-4040CDN, HL-4040CN, HL-4070CDW, MFC-9440CN and MFC-9450CDN

It is a color printer, but we barely print color — does that matter?

Not to this purchase. Black is its own cartridge on the HL-4040, so a monochrome workload consumes the TN115BK while the colors idle. You are not paying to subsidize color capacity you do not use; you replace each color only when your actual color printing empties it.

How much longer does it last than the standard cartridge?

The standard TN110BK for these printers yields 2,500 pages. This high-yield TN115BK doubles that to 5,000 pages, which on a dedicated print machine means half the changeovers and a lower cost on every page in between.

Should I stock the color set as well?

Only if your color volume justifies it. When all four supplies eventually run low together, the TN115 four-color set ($127.02) is the economical full refresh. Until then, black alone — this cartridge — covers a print-only workflow.

What warranty applies?

A one-year warranty plus one-year free returns, as described on the shipping and returns page. Orders leave warehouses in IL, PA, GA or CA, and support is staffed 9 AM–5 PM CST.
