This drum unit delivers the quality your business demands from its printer. It is designed to consistently deliver crisp text and sharp graphics that really make an impactful impression. Use with Brother HL-L8260CDW, HL-L8360CDW, HL-L8360CDWT, MFC-L8610CDW, MFC-L8895CDW, MFC-L8900CDW, MFCL8905CDW
It can be, and on this platform that symptom points somewhere precise. The HL-L8260CDW, HL-L8360CDW and MFC-L8900CDW family runs a separate drum at each colour station, so a scratched or worn drum usually vandalises one colour only: the same spot or stripe repeats at a fixed interval down every page, in cyan alone, or magenta alone, while the rest of the print stays clean. Toner faults look different — overall fading, patchy density, low yield warnings. When one colour misbehaves in a repeating pattern and a fresh cartridge has not cured it, the DR431CL drum at that station is the part to change.
It means this is a slow-moving part in a busy machine. Over a 30,000-page life, a DR431CL drum will see roughly ten TN431 black cartridges (3,000 pages each) or six to seven TN433 blacks (4,500 pages) pass through the black station, and the colour stations cycle their TN431 or TN433 colours at a similar pace. Most offices replace these drums once every few years, not once a quarter — which is why the failure is often misdiagnosed as a toner problem first.
At our sale price of $222.55 — against a $311.57 list price, a saving of $89.02 — the drum works out at roughly three quarters of a cent per page across its rated life. That is the cheapest insurance in the machine: the drum surface decides edge sharpness and background cleanliness on every page, and a worn one quietly taxes you in reprints long before it fails outright.
Seven workgroup colour models: the HL-L8260CDW, HL-L8360CDW and HL-L8360CDWT printers, and the MFC-L8610CDW, MFC-L8895CDW, MFC-L8900CDW and MFC-L8905CDW multifunctions. All seven share the TN431 standard-yield and TN433 high-yield toner families. If your machine takes TN431 or TN433 cartridges and sits in that HL-L83xx / MFC-L89xx generation, this is its drum; the earlier MFC-L8850CDW generation uses a different unit.
No. Each colour station carries its own DR431CL, and they wear independently — the black station, which works hardest, usually reaches the end first. Change the drum the printer flags, or the one whose colour shows the repeating defect, and leave the healthy stations alone. There is no saving in a blanket swap, only cost. Do reset the drum counter for the station you changed, or the machine will keep reporting the old drum's remaining life.
Genuine Brother products bought here can be returned within 30 days of delivery, whatever the reason, and cover after that point runs through Brother's own manufacturer warranty — the full terms sit on our shipping and returns page. A drum is a fragile, light-sensitive part, so if the box arrives crushed or the unit looks marked, contact our support team Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, before fitting it.
This is the genuine Brother DR431CL drum unit for the HL-L8260CDW / HL-L8360CDW and MFC-L8610CDW / MFC-L8900CDW workgroup colour platform — 30,000 rated pages at $222.55, well under the $311.57 list price. It is the imaging surface behind the TN431 and TN433 toner families, replaced station by station as each colour's drum wears. The complete genuine range for these machines lives in our Brother section. Orders ship from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA or CA.
