Frequently Asked Questions
My prints have a washed-out, grey look even though the toner is new — what is going on?
On the compact Brother machines in this family, that washed-out look is the drum's signature. The DR360 transfers the image to the page, and its surface dulls gradually over its 12,000-page rated life. Fresh toner cannot compensate for a tired drum surface, so output stays grey and weak. If a new toner cartridge changed nothing, the drum is the remaining suspect — and on these models it is a user-replaceable part you can swap in minutes.
Is the DR360 the same purchase as a toner cartridge?
No, and the confusion is understandable because the two parts live together inside the printer. The toner cartridge holds the powder and empties every 1,500 to 2,600 pages depending on the cartridge fitted. The DR360 drum holds no powder at all; it is the imaging surface the toner passes through, rated for 12,000 pages. You will replace several toner cartridges during the life of a single DR360.
The "Replace Drum" warning has appeared — do I have to stop printing?
The warning is a mileage counter, not a lockout: the machine has counted roughly 12,000 pages through the drum. You can usually keep printing for a while, but the quality decline that the counter predicts — fading, spots, grey background — is already under way. Resetting the counter without fitting a new drum only hides the reminder. When the pages start to bother you, a new DR360 is the cure.
How many toner changes does one DR360 normally outlast?
Several — that is the arithmetic of a 12,000-page drum working alongside toner cartridges rated in the low thousands of pages. In a home office or small business printing a few hundred pages a month, a single DR360 can serve for years of ordinary use, quietly outliving toner after toner before its surface gives out.
Which printers use the DR360?
Brother's compact range of that period: the DCP-7030, DCP-7040 and DCP-7045N copiers, the HL-2140, HL-2150N and HL-2170W printers, and the MFC-7320, MFC-7340, MFC-7345DN, MFC-7345N, MFC-7440N and MFC-7840W multifunction machines. If you own one of these and print quality has faded despite fresh toner, the DR360 is its drum.
What happens if the drum is faulty when it arrives?
Send it back within 30 days of delivery — our return terms for genuine Brother products apply in every case, faulty, damaged or ordered by mistake. Past that first month, cover continues under Brother's manufacturer warranty. The shipping & returns page explains how returns work, and you can reach support Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
