Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this a MICR cartridge rather than the standard one?

MICR stands for magnetic ink character recognition. This 106R01486 cartridge is filled with MICR toner, whose particles can be read magnetically — the property banks' equipment relies on when it processes printed checks. It carries the same part number and the same 4,100-page rating as the standard cartridge, but it is made for printing checks rather than everyday documents.

Does the MICR version cost more?

No. This listing is $53.50, exactly the same price as the standard 106R01486 single cartridge. You are choosing the toner type your work needs, not paying a premium for it.

Which printers can I print checks from with it?

It loads into the same machines as the standard cartridge: the WorkCentre 3210, the 3210N, and the WorkCentre 3220, 3220DN and 3220VDN. Any of those models can become your check printer while this cartridge is installed.

Can I use it for ordinary office printing too?

You can — it prints normal black pages — but most offices keep the two jobs separate: the MICR cartridge goes in for check runs, and a standard cartridge handles letters, invoices and reports. Swapping by part number is simple because both versions are built on the same 106R01486 cartridge.

How many checks does one cartridge cover?

The rating is up to 4,100 pages at standard coverage, and check pages use very little toner compared with a full document page, so a payroll or accounts-payable run consumes the cartridge slowly. Your real count will depend on how much else is printed on each sheet.

What if the cartridge gives me trouble?

It is covered like everything else we sell: a one-year warranty and free returns within that year, with the details on our shipping and returns page. Orders ship from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California warehouses, and support is staffed Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This 106R01486 MICR Cartridge

A check-printing version of the 106R01486 supply for the WorkCentre 3210/3220 family: one black MICR cartridge, rated at up to 4,100 pages, priced at $53.50 — the same as the standard single. If your office prints its own payroll or vendor checks on one of these Xerox machines, this is the cartridge filled for that job, and it sits alongside the regular toner options in our Xerox catalogue.
