The Xpress C460 takes four cartridges. Do they all run out together?
They do not. The Xpress C460 is a higher-speed single-function color printer with independent CMYK channels — CLT-K406S black plus CLT-C406S cyan, CLT-M406S magenta and CLT-Y406S yellow — and each cartridge is monitored on its own. Text-heavy printing drains black first; brochures, slides and photos pull the three colors down together. Replace cartridges individually as the printer flags them, and only buy the full four-pack when several are low at once.
The Xpress C460 will not recognize a new CLT-406S cartridge. What should I try?
Switch the Xpress C460 off, take the cartridge out, and clean the gold chip contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, then reinstall it with a firm push until it clicks into place. A cartridge fresh from a freezing warehouse or hot porch can misread until it reaches room temperature. Persistent rejection of a third-party cartridge usually comes down to a chip the printer firmware does not accept.
Genuine vs compatible CLT-406S for the Xpress C460 — how do I tell what I am buying?
Genuine stock arrives in OEM-sealed boxes with holographic security marks; compatibles say compatible with CLT-K406S (or C/M/Y) and carry no OEM branding. The Xpress C460 accepts both mechanically, but compatibles vary in chip acceptance and color fidelity. Run a color test page while the return window is open, because a rejected chip or a magenta that prints pink is only fixable with the packaging intact.
