No. The Xpress C1860 is a color laser printer with NFC tap-to-print and a touchscreen that lays down toner in four separate CMYK channels, so each cartridge — CLT-K504S black, CLT-C504S cyan, CLT-M504S magenta and CLT-Y504S yellow — is tracked and replaced independently. Black almost always empties first on text documents, while the three color cartridges drain together on graphics and photos. Replace only what the printer flags; buy a full set only when several colors are low at once.
Why do color prints from my Xpress C1860 look washed out even though the cartridges are not empty?
Check that toner-save or draft mode is not stuck on in the driver, because the Xpress C1860 will keep printing pale pages long after you forget enabling it. If density is set normally, pull the weakest cartridge, rock it gently side to side to redistribute the toner, and reseat it — that often restores rich color for a while. When all four colors fade together, the transfer belt or another imaging part is the likelier culprit than any single CLT-504S cartridge.
What is the cheapest way to run the Xpress C1860 without print quality falling apart?
Default the driver to grayscale with toner-save mode for everyday and internal printing, so routine pages consume only the CLT-K504S black cartridge at reduced density. Reserve full-quality color on the Xpress C1860 for client-facing output. Store spare cartridges upright in a cool, dark spot — heat and light degrade toner powder — and shake a low cartridge side to side before replacing it, since usable toner often hides in the corners.
