Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this Q2624X a MICR cartridge rather than an ordinary black?

The toner itself. This Q2624X is loaded with magnetic MICR toner, formulated so the account line along the bottom of a check can be read by bank sorting equipment. It fits and prints like the standard cartridge in a LaserJet 1150, but its output is made for checks — that magnetic character is the whole point of the product.

Will my bank accept checks printed with this cartridge?

We cannot promise that, and no cartridge maker honestly can — acceptance rests with your bank and its readers, not with us. The sound routine is to print a small test batch of checks first and have your bank scan and verify them before you commit to a full run. Most offices find the test settles the question in one visit.

What do offices print with it day to day?

Payroll checks and accounts-payable checks are the staple work, printed on blank check stock from an ordinary HP LaserJet 1150. Many offices keep this cartridge for check runs and load the check paper only for the run itself, so the magnetic toner is spent where it matters and nowhere else.

How far does the 4,000-page rating stretch on check work?

The rating is struck at five percent coverage, and a printed check is a light page — a payee line, figures and the coded line along the foot — so check work sits at or under the test figure. In practice a cartridge carries a small business through a long succession of weekly check runs.

What arrives for $45.99?

One compatible Q2624X MICR black cartridge, sealed, rated at 4,000 pages, with its drum built in. There is no separate drum to buy for this printer, so the $45.99 covers the complete supply your check printing needs.

What if a cartridge fails partway through its life?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns, detailed on our shipping and returns page. We ship from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
