Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this cartridge a MICR cartridge?

The toner inside is formulated with magnetic material so that bank sorting equipment can read the MICR line — the account and routing characters — along the bottom of a check. This C8061X MICR cartridge is the HP 61X supply for the LaserJet 4100, filled with that magnetic toner and rated at 10,000 pages.

Can I print ordinary documents with it as well?

Yes, it prints normal black text and documents like any other cartridge, so a small business can keep one printer for both check runs and everyday paperwork. Many offices do exactly that. What you should not do is the reverse: ordinary toner lacks the magnetic content, so checks printed with a standard cartridge may fail bank processing.

Will my bank definitely accept checks printed with this cartridge?

No cartridge maker can promise that. Acceptance depends on the whole chain — check stock, printer condition, MICR line placement and signal strength — and the final say belongs to your bank. What we can say is that the toner is formulated for MICR readability; whether a given setup passes is something only a live test can settle.

How should I test before printing a full check run?

Print a small batch of sample checks first and take them to your bank for a readability check before committing to a payroll or supplier run. That one step confirms the signal strength and line placement on your actual printer and stock. Only scale up once the bank confirms the samples read cleanly.

What does the MICR cartridge cost?

One cartridge is $62.63. There is no separate drum to buy — the drum is built into the cartridge on this platform — and no special software is needed beyond the check-printing program you already use. The swap itself is the same two-minute job as with a standard cartridge.

What cover applies to this cartridge?

It carries a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, with the details on our shipping and returns page. We ship from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST if a check run raises questions.

About This HP 61X MICR Toner Cartridge

Within the HP toner cartridges range at Clever Supplies, this is the check-printing member of the 61X family: a compatible C8061X cartridge whose magnetic toner lets a LaserJet 4100 produce bank-readable checks in-house, at the same 10,000-page capacity as the standard high-yield supply.

This is a platform-wide part: LaserJet 4100, LaserJet 4100dtn, LaserJet 4100mfp, LaserJet 4100n and LaserJet 4100tn all take the 61X (C8061X) MICR cartridge. Shoppers comparing capacities will also find the standard 61X (C8061X) single cartridge and the standard-yield 61A (C8061A) single cartridge.
