Frequently Asked Questions

Our 5140cdn is aging — when does it stop making sense to keep buying sets for it?

While it still prints cleanly, the arithmetic favors the toner: at $140.48, a set returns 18,000 black pages and 12,000 pages per color from a machine you already own. The honest tipping point is mechanical, not financial — repeated jams, streaks that a fresh set does not cure, or print quality the office no longer accepts. Until then, a sub-$150 set against a four-figure replacement is an easy decision.

Does the "Premium Quality" in this name signal a different specification?

No — it is part of the listing's name, not a measured upgrade. The codes (330-5846 black, 330-5850 cyan, 330-5843 magenta, 330-5852 yellow), the 18,000/12,000-page ratings, the $140.48 price and the warranty and returns terms are the same as on the standard 5140cdn listing. On an older machine especially, buy by the numbers you can verify.

How do we double-check the codes on a machine this old?

Open the toner bay and read any one cartridge: you are looking for the family 330-5846, 330-5850, 330-5843 and 330-5852. Labels survive better than front-panel badges on long-serving machines, and the codes — not the model name — are what this set is built to match.

If we retire the machine with an unopened set on the shelf, what then?

The set is covered by 1-year free returns, so an unneeded set is not a sunk cost — the terms are on our shipping and returns page. It is also the same supply the Color Laser 5120cdn and 5130cdn use, so a set can move to another machine in the family if one is still in service.

How does the yield balance look over the machine's remaining life?

The black 330-5846 is rated at 18,000 pages and the colors at 12,000 each, so colors will call for attention about half again as often. For an aging machine that mostly means: do not be surprised when color fades first, and do not condemn the printer for what is simply the shorter-rated cartridges reaching their end.

What support stands behind an older machine's toner?

The same as behind any set we sell: a 1-year warranty on these compatible cartridges and support Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
