Frequently Asked Questions
How many months will one cartridge realistically last in a small office running an E450D?
It depends on your monthly volume, but at 11,000 pages this high-yield cartridge covers a lot of ground. An office printing around 900 pages a month can expect roughly a year from a single cartridge, while a busier desk at 1,800 pages a month will get closer to six months. That long stretch between swaps is exactly why the E450H21A suits a dependable mid-2000s workhorse like the E450D.
Is the per-page cost on this single cartridge actually competitive for an older printer?
Yes — at $152.41 for 11,000 pages, you are paying about 1.39 cents per page for toner alone. Keeping an older, fully paid-for Lexmark running at that rate is usually far cheaper than replacing the machine and starting over with smaller starter cartridges. For most E450D owners, the math favors feeding the printer you already trust.
Will this cartridge work in my E450D, or is it limited to that one model?
This listing is named for the E450D, but the E450H21A cartridge itself fits the wider E450 platform — E450D and E450DN. If your printer is in that family, the same cartridge installs the same way, regardless of which model name appears in the listing title. When in doubt, match the cartridge code E450H21A on your old cartridge label.
Why choose a high-yield cartridge for a vintage printer instead of the standard yield?
The standard cartridge for this platform runs out much sooner, which means more orders, more downtime, and more chances to be caught empty before a deadline. The 11,000-page high-yield version stretches each replacement cycle considerably. On a machine that is no longer the newest in the office, that reliability matters more than shaving a few dollars off the purchase price.
How should I store this cartridge if I am not installing it right away?
Keep it sealed in its original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Stored that way, a toner cartridge holds up well for an extended shelf period, so buying before you run completely dry is a sensible habit. Give the cartridge a gentle side-to-side shake before installation to distribute the toner evenly.
What protection do I get if this cartridge has a problem?
Every Clever Supplies compatible cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty, and you also have a full year to return it free if it is not right for you — the details are on our shipping and returns page. Orders ship from one of our warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia, or California, and our support team is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST if you need help.
