Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this the 'high-yield' cyan next to the TN221C?

Capacity in the same shell. The TN225C carries 2,200 rated pages; the standard TN221C for these very machines carries 1,400. The price tells the rest of the story: $134.25 here is about 6.1 cents a page, against roughly 7.1 cents on the standard cartridge — you pay about a third more money for well over half as many pages again, and you open the printer less often to do it.

Which printers take the TN225C?

Eight models from Brother's compact colour LED range: the DCP-9020CDN, the HL-3140CW, HL-3150CDN, HL-3170CDW and HL-3180CDW printers, and the MFC-9130CW, MFC-9330CDW and MFC-9340CDW all-in-ones. This is the platform a generation of small offices and home workers runs on, and the TN225C serves its cyan slot.

What goes in the black slot on these machines?

A TN221BK. Brother never made a high-yield black for this family — the black line stops at the standard cartridge, rated at 2,500 pages — while the three colours got the TN225 high-yield treatment. So a full set for these printers is a TN221BK alongside TN225 colours, and that combination is by design, not a mismatch.

Our charts have lost their blue-green punch — is cyan the cartridge to blame?

Probably. Cyan starvation drains exactly that family of colours: blues pale out, teals go grey, and chart series that should read clearly start to blur into each other. Print the machine's test page and look at the cyan band; if it prints light or broken against solid magenta and yellow bands, this cartridge is spent and a fresh TN225C restores the range.

How long is 2,200 pages in a home office, in real time?

Colour pages in a home office are usually counted in tens a month, not hundreds, so a 2,200-page colour cartridge is commonly a multi-year resident — which is precisely the case for high-yield here. One purchase covers school projects, the occasional photo run and years of letterheads without a repeat order, and the per-page saving over the standard cartridge accrues the whole time.

What are the terms if I need to return it?

Thirty days from delivery to return any genuine Brother cartridge, faulty or simply wrong for your machine, with Brother's manufacturer warranty standing behind the product itself — the full text is on our shipping and returns page. Genuine stock does not carry the extended cover our compatible cartridges do; OEM terms are these.
